Reception

Our Reception class is our Early Year Foundation Stage, the youngest class in our school. The children are carefully nurtured and know that everyone is around to help them learn and make new friends. This is where their learning begins.

Children learn using many different learning styles: visual resources, sensory objects and through play. In maths, children learn to count, to add and take away numbers and explore patterns and shape. Children learn English skills through communication and language activities such as role play. They will learn the alphabet and high frequency words through phonics. Children also begin to learn to write, how to hold a pencil and form letters correctly. Other subjects are taught through play, exploration and our exciting 'WOW' topics.

What their teacher says...

Reception truly is a magical place which marks the start of a new chapter for our little stars. It is astounding to see how many significant skills are learned across this year and it really is a privilege to prepare the children - the future of our world - to be the best versions of themselves.
